Dear Past and Present Members
Last night the 2010 QPWC AGM was held in
Brisbane. At the AGM, no nominations for any
executive positions were offered or put
forward, as in none.
As
a result the AGM was adjourned and the
previous executive have remained in an
emergency management capacity on a temporary
basis. A special general meeting will be
held on the 12th of September
prior to the clubs next event at Atkinson’s
Dam which the outgoing committee have agreed
to run. At this meeting which will be
advertised, the future of the club will have
to be discussed. If people don’t come
forward to fill these positions to run the
club then options such as winding the club
up will have to be considered.
This is a wake up call, I find it incredible
that 60 plus people can turn up to race at
the Qld Titles yet we can’t find 10 people
to run the club and administer the race
days. For all of the talk on the internet
about race promoters, being as big as SX,
etc, it is not reality and we have to face
this. PWC racing is a small community based
amateur sport in Australia that is all it
is. Before it can go to any sort of next
level it needs grass roots support. That
means if you want to race you have to help.
The reality is that there is a lot of work
involved in running race days. Yes we could
go back to basics and run small basic
courses but people expect more. They want
the big Ricky designed tracks with multiple
splits and 3000 buoys, they want accurate
lap scoring, fair race directors, multiple
classes, junior programs, good safety
marshalling, two rescue skis, electric start
gates etc etc.
The club has many resources, money in the
bank, club manuals, checklists, everything
except people to step up and share the
workload of running the club week in and
week out and contributing on race days to
make sure all of the jobs are done. The
outgoing executive will be available to
assist the incoming committee to ensure they
have everything required to take over the
running of the club, please contact myself
or any of the ex committee if you want to
discuss what’s involved in coming on to the
committee.
